VW Jetta WVO

Tags: links inline

"I found my VW on E-bay. I had bid on a few others but was out bid- my Jetta had a buy now price of $1995- I snapped it up!
I live near Bruno, MN (50 miles south of Duluth), though the car was in York, PA.

It was only $150 & 33-34 hours by Greyhound. I was still layed-off from work so no problem. It was everything the seller claimed, but without the rust we have in such abundance here in MN! I got 47 MPG on the 1350 mile trip back. I could hardly wait to get back to work to afford the conversion to WVO!

My mom thought I was nuts for messing with a car that gets such excellent fuel mileage. I think she was driving a Cadillac at the time.... 5 weeks after I bought the car (Memorial Day weekend), I had the car running on straight vegetable oil! Everything I needed for the conversion was on the Web"

collecting wvo

How do you collect WVO in the hot summer days when you can only collect it on a monthly basis? Is it possible to do this with the self life of WVO. If you are collecting from a few different sources as well. Or is this not possible to do due to bacteria growth?

Biodiesel Auction Site

Tags: links inline

There is an online auction for WVO that people can use to find legitimate buyers and sellers of oil. They are similar to eBay but offer only bio-diesel items and functions a little differently.

I stumbled upon their site http://www.FillmoreFuels.com and think it can be a great idea for buying and selling WVO. They have a feedback section, so as the site matures, you will have more confidence in who you buy WVO from. They even have the option of trading items... for example: trade 10 gallons of WVO for 5 gallons of bio-diesel, etc...

No listings yet for my area or I would use it in a heartbeat to buy WVO instead of having to collect it myself. For those of you who live close to the WVO currently for sale, this site could be very useful for you.

Vegetable oil fuels cars -- and tax bills
Diesel owners who switch to cooking grease can run afoul of the law. Just ask the governor.
By Evan Halper
Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

May 6, 2008

Dave Eck, a Half Moon Bay mechanic, had attracted a media spotlight with his fleet of vehicles fueled by used fryer grease from a local chowder house. So when Sacramento called, he figured officials wanted advice on promoting alternative fuels.

Not at all. The government rang to notify Eck that he was a tax cheat. He was scolded for failing to get a "diesel fuel supplier's license," reporting quarterly how many gallons of grease he burns, and paying a tax on each gallon.

"All of a sudden they nailed me for a road tax," said Eck, who drives a Hummer converted to run on vegetable oil. "I said, 'Not a problem. I'll do my part. But what do I get? At least let me into the carpool lane.' "
