Best Mercedes Benz for WVO

I'm looking for a Mercedes to operate using SVO and have heard that the 1980 300SD is the best model for this purpose (will run on anything, built like a tank, etc.). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

1984 Mercedes Benz 300TDT WVO

Our 1984 MB 300TDT... It was converted to a plantdrive single tank system 1.5 yrs ago- approximately 8,000 greasy miles since then with absolutely no problems. This is a great example of a low mileage 300 with a strong shifting transmission and beautiful lines. It has the factory 3rd row seat w/seatbelts, and the self-leveling rear suspension works as well- a rare find. There are only several things that may require attention: to charge the air conditioner, as it was not blowing as cool at the end of the summer, the vacuum door locks lose pressure, but operate fine while the car is running. For example, the driver's side lock will open with the key, and then one must either pull up the other locks by hand inside, or start the vehicle and all the doors will unlock on their own. We will also include our oil pumping setup and remaining filters with the purchase, a plantdrive setup with the wand, pump, and spigot.

We purchased the WVO conversion kit from plantdrive.com and had it installed by our mechanic here in Cabot. Who has done all of our maintenance. Within the past year to year and a half we have replaced the glow pugs and all four tires. Then last week we replaced the battery which was 9 years old. We are the fourth owners but the previous owners have passed down most of the maintenance records from years past.
While Jay was deployed from August until December last year it was parked at the squadron. In that time the Arkansas heat and sun took it's toll on the roof paint (see photos)

1985 300SD wvo converted mercedes benz

This white, brown leather interior, 300SD is converted to run on vegetable oil and is fit with a Golden Fuels system by a mechanic at Beach Benz in southern California. It is a 15-gallon double-walled (heats up faster and stays hot longer) rectangular tank in the trunk. This car speeds up to 75 mph on 80% grease without shaking.

300SD WVO Coversion: 2 tank or 1, what's the optimum set up?

I'm interested in converting my 82 MB 300SD into a grease burner and I'm a bit confused. I've got friends that swear by the 2 tank system, but others who say that this doesn't fix the problems associated with stock injectors and WVO. I also have a group of friends who run the Elsbett 1 tank system and they swear by it. Others say the 1 tank is a bear in the cold and not as reliable as the 2 tank. I don't know who is right and I thought I'd go outside of my little group of highly opinionated friends and ask some others. Any input, no matter how crazy, is appreciated. I'm planning on having this running in a few months.
Thanks,
Ed

Smoking WVO

Help! My 1985 MB 300D which has a coolant heated wvo system is smoking. Mostly on acceleration. The rear tank, which is where I mistakenly put the thermostat, reads 120F so I'm pretty sure I'm getting up to 150-160F up front. I've been checking the engine oil and it doesn't seem to be burning oil. Does anyone have any ideas why it might be smoking?

Mercedes Benz W123 Diesel Engine

I've heard that the Mercedes Benz W123 model diesel engine, particularly in the 1985 year is one of the best diesels built. Is there any reason for this, more specific than it just runs well? Is it particularly suited for wvo?

Here's the Wikipedia page on the Mercedes W123:

Mercedes 300D conversion

"This my first post here in this great forums. I'd like to share with you the steps of the conversion a mercedes 300D 1981.

The whole idea started when I joined the OZBENZ forums where I met Tony and Bruce. They have offered to be at help for not only me but anyone wanting to become a SVO used.

I bought the following parts for the conversion ...

20 Plate Heat exchanger -eBay/Tony.
CAV filter - eBay.
Pollak fuel valve eBay.
Brackets, aluminium angle and bolts - Bunnings warehouse.
Blumbing fittings - ENZED

Still more but not much to buy

Here is a photo of things so far."

merecedez benz biodiesel trouble with leak off lines

I have a 1993 MB 300 TD which I have been running B20 to B99 with good performance. The only problem I have is so far not being able to find a replacement for the leak off lines at the injectors. They are made of rubber and of course do not do well. I have had to have these replaced twice this last year.

Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? My local MB dealer said he didn't think these leak off lines were available in anything but rubber.

thanks for any ideas
