Which Truck Best for WVO Conversion? 7.3/6.0 Powerstroke vs. 5.9L Cummins
Anybody know which engine has a better reputation for a WVO conversion, the later Powerstrokes (7.3/6.0) or the 5.9 Cummins? I know the Cummins has a better rep as far as buring old #2, but does its reliability hold for WVO?
Thanks,
Brent B.
WVO in Cummins 6CTA 8.3 l 1992/3 Help
I have a 1993 Safari 36'coach with the Cummins 6CTA 8.3 L pre-computerized engine and would like to add WVO capability.
If you have WVO experience with this engine please contact me. I intend to use the best water separation and dual filtering methods with a final H20 filter on good quality used oil. i think too many folks just half way clean their oil before feeding it to the IP. Any moisture no matter how small the amount is a very bad idea in a diesel.
Are there problems with presenting enough hot grease to this engine>
What injector pumps are best with this engine
Is the fuel rail system easily adaptable for WVO use?
What special requirements does this engine have?
Any pointers you may have based on experience with this engine.

4 Cylinder Cummins B Diesel Engine on WVO
There is a straight-4 cylinder Cummins B diesel engine that comes in 3.3L and 3.9L sizes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cummin...
Wikipedia says the B4.5 is used in agricultural vehicles, while the B6.7 is used in passenger engines. Anyone heard of the B4.5 used in passenger cars or trucks? Would it run on wvo? Is there a 4 cylinder Cummins that is already in passenger vehicles?
I know the Cummins B, especially, is one of the better diesel engines for wvo, but it would be cool if there were one that got really good mpg! Thanks for any links or comments!!
Lift Pump Needed for '03 Dodge Cummins VO System
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram, 24V, 5.9L Cummins that was in January ’07 converted to run on straight vegetable oil (VO). The stock fuel system in the Cummins engine has the lift pump mounted on the fuel filter, i.e., NOT in the fuel tank. In my VO conversion system I have an MSD lift pump, (model # PN 2225, rated at 43 gph @ 40 psi, 5.4 amps [gasoline rating]) with a pressure regulator on the discharge of the MSD lift pump to regulate the VO pressure down to 6 to 9 psi, in the range that the injection pump likes to see. My MSD lift pump recently failed. I am in search of a new cost-effective lift pump to replace my failed MSD lift pump. I have to questions – (1) what would be a good readily available lift pump to use, make and model number, that is not too expensive, i.e., less than about $150 and (2) did I need to use a pressure regulator in the discharge of the MSD lift pump and will I need to use a pressure regulator in the discharge of my new lift pump?
Veggie Van Gogh
Veggie Van Gogh s transportation, warehouse, and living quarters for Carol and Jan, gypsy artisans who criss-cross North America, peddling their wares at arts & crafts festivals, powered by waste vegetable oil.
This was a ground-up conversion, not a kit, even to building my own heated fuel tanks. The website includes schematics and design notes.
Special features include: three tank system and on-board filtering so you can drive on one tank while cleaning the other, ten channels of temperature monitoring, custom paint job, unique crank-down bed, more.
Grease cutting/thinning agents
I recently began running my '98.5 Dodge Ram, Cummins 24V on WVO. Now, I have not done any sort of conversion, although my truck is equipped with a fuel heater. I am noticing that the oil may still be a bit too thick for my fuel system, so I got to thinking about cutting it with another fuel for easier flow. Now, the obvious choice is kerosene, and I do at present have a pretty hefty supply of it. However, I if at some point I run out and replacing my stash does not look to be as cheap as I would like, i came to think that a small amount of gasoline may be a suitable replacement. Now I know you are all thinking that putting gasoline in a diesel is a bad idea, but if it were mixed in small quantities (which is more feasible than kerosene, as it is a better solvent, and would allow a higher grease/thinner ratio) its speedy burning should be slowed by its dilution. Plus I think the highly flammable nature of gas might help for a more complete and cleaner burn of the oil. Any thoughts?
