which benz is ideal for conversion

I am interested in buying a mercedes for WVO conversion. I've been doing research and it's confusing. One school of thought is that the 81-85 is best because they are the last of the cast iron engines. I've also been told that newer models will do ok, even though they have aluminum heads. Anyone got some info. Thanks.
