Mid Western WVO owner/operators, Looking for cold climate survival guide

Tags: links inline

I live in Kansas City, MO & I'm looking for anyone who has experienced operating a wvo vehical in freezing temp. I know they sell heating element kits for your tanks, but how do they stack up against our mid-western winters? This winter was especially hard. I want to make the switch to a wvo car/truck, but can't get over the idea that I would only be able to operate it for 6 to 8 months out of the year.
I don't have a heated garage, so what ever vehical I go with it would withstand the elements on a year round basis.
Any suggestions would help.
