VW Jetta WVO
"I found my VW on E-bay. I had bid on a few others but was out bid- my Jetta had a buy now price of $1995- I snapped it up!
I live near Bruno, MN (50 miles south of Duluth), though the car was in York, PA.
It was only $150 & 33-34 hours by Greyhound. I was still layed-off from work so no problem. It was everything the seller claimed, but without the rust we have in such abundance here in MN! I got 47 MPG on the 1350 mile trip back. I could hardly wait to get back to work to afford the conversion to WVO!
My mom thought I was nuts for messing with a car that gets such excellent fuel mileage. I think she was driving a Cadillac at the time.... 5 weeks after I bought the car (Memorial Day weekend), I had the car running on straight vegetable oil! Everything I needed for the conversion was on the Web"
Mercedes Benz Waste Vegetable Oil Conversion Project
"This DIY waste vegetable oil conversion is based around three simple points which are outlined below.
1. At 160° Fahrenheit used vegetable oil will act the same in the injection system as diesel fuel.
2. The Vegetable oil must be filtered at least as well as the stock fuel system filters diesel and the filters should be large and easy to replace.
3. The motor must be shut down and started up on diesel (or biodiesel).
After working with the grease system and talking to other people who had converted it became apparent that looping the fuel return was the only way reliably heat the grease to 160°. If the fuel return is not looped back to the input of the injection pump you will never maintain the required 160° minimum temperature inside the fuel system."
1994 Serro Scotty Motorhome w/ Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel on WVO
"Hello Friends!

You are looking at a '94 Serro Scotty motorhome with a Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel engine that's been converted to run on recycled vegetable oil and is also partially solar powered. We'll soon be visiting schools to share our adventures and to encourage kids and adults to think more about green energy sources and responsible consumption. The enthusiasm and support we are receiving has been very inspiring. Read on for more photos, info and links to some of these supporters. This site is being updated and expanded regularly, so we hope you come back to visit soon!"
The Doodlebug
We use this doodlebug to get around on the farm. It is powered with a 7 HP Hatz diesel. We run it on straight vegetable oil in the summer time without switching to diesel. Boys love to drive it.
Semi Truck WVO Conversions
"Listen closely: If you want to convert a heavy duty truck, like a Freightliner, call Rick Jeshiva, if you're in the Charlotte area (make time to find this guy if you're not!).
We had Rick convert several straight trucks (Isuzu FTRs) and a 33' Freightliner MT Moving van--and we made some mistakes in the process.
The first time we did it, we hired a nice but otherwise fruity goofball out of High Point, NC. This guy was cheap, sure, but two months later we were ripping his WVO system out of the truck so that Rick could do it over using parts HE recommended (Greasecar? I'd rather hire a Wal-mart employee to wish it done).
Essentially, we paid to have the same job done twice. If we had known about Rick from the start, we would have saved thousands of dollars--and gotten the job done on schedule.
Rick's phone number is: 704-606-7314
He's one tough, mean SOB, but if you want the job done right, he's the guy to call!
And if you run into a Hippie type somewhere north of Charlotte--if he says he can do it in a week, expect it to take a freakin' month."

Any way to get this to run on wvo? (at least the jet engine)?

Cleaning Vegetable Oil with a Centrifuge

"The whole setup with the heater tank in the background and the barrel to catch the oil to the left. The white bucket is to catch any oil that happens to come out of the cream spout."

WVO Conversion on my 1995 Dodge Cummins 4x4 Diesel Truck
"This page documents how I run waste vegetable oil (WVO) collected for free from restaurants dumpsters. They are glad to get it collected for free since they usually have to pay for removal in this area. The trick to doing this successfully without shortening your engine life is to run a 2 tank heated setup, and filter and dewater the WVO very well. And this is still an experiment where I won't know if the life was shortened for many years yet since these trucks are rated to last 350k miles before overhaul and this one has 140k after 12 years. Many people have driven >100k miles on VO already. I am an engineer, so I spent lots of time studying the conversion kits sold by many companies, and many online forums, and came up with my own design which I think is more reliable, simpler, and cost far less. This truck from 94-98.5 is one of the best diesel engines to convert to VO since its got a strong mechanical fuel injection pump. It burns cleaner than diesel and the exhaust smells like a BBQ grill."
Good Vibes Veggie Oil Tips
"The lesson I learned from all of my oil pumping experiences is to collect oil from the restaurants that are able to give me oil directly from the fryer (put into cubbies). It is cleaner, better quality, and requires less work. Just drive up and knock on the back door of a restaurant. Don't forget to be polite and grateful."
A great howto resource and helpful guide for those new to the wvo collection and filtration process.
Homemade DIY WVO Filtering System for $300
After a year of design and testing I'm proud to say that my filtering system works great. The whole project cost about $300 and removes all water and particles down to 5 micron. The process starts with pouring the used oil into a five gallon bucket mounted over a 30 gallon transparent drum. The oil flows through a straining bag into the drum and permitted to settle. The water is allowed to accumilate at the bottom and can be drained from the bottom tap. The product is then pumped from the primary drum eight inches above the drain to avoid the contaminated oil. The oil then passes through a 30 micron Stanadyne FM100 filter, the Filrite pump and then another Stanadyne FM100 5 micron filter to the secondary holding drum or the car tank. This method has worked, without fail for almost a year before changing the FM100 filters. The screening bag filter is easy to clean in the washing machine about every month and allowed to dry. "On this Blog you'll be able to follow my progress on the conversion of a 1976 model W123 Mercedes to run on unmodified vegetable oil (UVO), or waste vegetable oil (WVO). I'll post stuff and upload some pics to show you how to do this yourself on your own vehicle :) [...]
Why a 300D Benz?
The W123 model Mercedes Benz is widely considered as the most bullet-proof and reliable Benz models ever made. Around the world, stories of these cars reaching 500,000km are commonplace. A million km on the clock hardly raises an eyebrow. All W123s are a tribute to Mercedes Benz engineering, and their diesel engines in particular, are legendary."
Veggie Van Gogh
Veggie Van Gogh s transportation, warehouse, and living quarters for Carol and Jan, gypsy artisans who criss-cross North America, peddling their wares at arts & crafts festivals, powered by waste vegetable oil.
This was a ground-up conversion, not a kit, even to building my own heated fuel tanks. The website includes schematics and design notes.
Special features include: three tank system and on-board filtering so you can drive on one tank while cleaning the other, ten channels of temperature monitoring, custom paint job, unique crank-down bed, more.

Mercedes 300D conversion
"This my first post here in this great forums. I'd like to share with you the steps of the conversion a mercedes 300D 1981.
The whole idea started when I joined the OZBENZ forums where I met Tony and Bruce. They have offered to be at help for not only me but anyone wanting to become a SVO used.
I bought the following parts for the conversion ...
20 Plate Heat exchanger -eBay/Tony.
CAV filter - eBay.
Pollak fuel valve eBay.
Brackets, aluminium angle and bolts - Bunnings warehouse.
Blumbing fittings - ENZED
Still more but not much to buy
Here is a photo of things so far."

Peter's Vegetable Oil Powered Car Conversion Log
"The following account documents my experiences in converting my 1979 VW Rabbit Diesel to run off straight vegetable oil (SVO). Modifications to the car, including tank construction; hose routing; interfacing to the car's fuel, cooling, and electrical systems, are covered as well as inclusion of parts lists, where applicable; a description of the construction of a grease collection/filtering system; and problems that I encountered after the initial installation."
WVO, Kerosene and Gasoline Mixture in 1985 Suburban Diesel
I've just started running a mixture of WVO Kerosene and gasoline in my 85 Suburban and have had no problems so far with a mix as high as 65% WVA.
I'm using a heat exchanger just after the stock mechanical lift pump and a PH8-A oil filter after that and before the stock filter. No second tank yet but I keep the block heater plugged in when the truck is not in use and have attached a 10 ohm resitor to the stock rectangular fuel filter. The resistor is powered by the trucks batteries. This system has been working fine so far in moderate weather but I intend to install a second tank this week.
