Don't know about where you guys are, but here's a little flash for ya. Biodiesel based on used veggie oil is fast becoming history here in Tennessee now, and will almost certainly follow nationwide. The reason...........farm and construction fleets who use it straight from their settlement tanks without converting it to Biodiesel. They will happily pay three dollars plus for all they can get their hands on, and some say they will even go right on up to the price of pump diesel because it's actually a better fuel for some of the very heavy equipment than the commercial stuff. The writing is on the wall for those of us who thought we were onto something big when we set our plants up. I'm one of the very first in my area to begin production (1990) and I will continue to operate for the time being, but only because I'm willing to go out and canvass the little five gallon per week places that the big boys won't bother with. I'm looking into railcar prices on soybeans, peanuts, and palm oil, but I have to tell you, the volatility in those commodities is dizzying, and it doesn't look very promising for any operation smaller than about 8-10,000 gallons per day. Good luck to those determined to go to the bitter end, but all I'm keeping is just enough equipment to furnish my own personal vehicles. It was good while it lasted. I've no complaints.
