Antifreeze Byproduct To Reduce Cost Of Biodiesel

A new process converts glycerine, a byproduct of biodiesel production process, into propylene glycol which can be used as a non-toxic alternative to antifreeze for automobiles. The new propylene glycol product meets every performance standard, is made from domestic soybeans and is nontoxic, unlike the ethylene glycol which is currently used for antifreeze and is made from petroleum. This technology can reduce the cost of biodiesel production by as much as $0.40 per gallon of biodiesel if the byproduct is sold.
